I am often asked how I got on to the speaking circuit? I have been on the speaking circuit for approx 10 years now and this was a natural progression from my training life. For nearly 30 years I have been standing in front of audiences yet I was never your standard “teacher/facilitator” type. It was always my belief that my job was to offer highly entertaining, captivating presentations so that the learning became easy and the desire to keep coming back was always prevalent. When people couldn’t fathom how I could keep people enthralled for three days, I would explain that it was like being at a live show with participation! Once they experienced it, they got it!
I feel that I have always trained and presented in a very similar style – whether it’s 50 or 5000, the style stays the same. Naturally, I am not as “full on” in front a small intimate group as I am standing before an audience of thousands but I really do aim to give it my all. I have always been so driven to give the audience every bit of me in that moment. There is a wonderful children’s movie, Stripes, and the pony says, “Don’t look back, leave it all on the track!” I feel the same way about presenting, regardless of the industry, audience, size or location. I leave it all on that stage! I like to think that I take that philosophy with me into all parts of my life. It's about "doing life" 100%. When we give it our all, regardless of what it is, then we won't have to worry about living in that space called, "if only!"
If only I had put more of an effort in... If only I had been better prepared... If only I have really committed myself... We make that choice many times a day, everyday of our of our life. I'm not talking about being a crazy person and trying to do everything at break neck speed. I'm just talking about being in the moment and really honoring it by being present to it. As my first book title says, There are only two times in life, NOW & TOO LATE! Don't make it too late ... BE PRESENT! :)
